What is Asia Pacific Ozone2Climate Art Contest ?

The Asia Pacific Ozone2Climate Art Contest is a platform used to raise awareness of the linkage between ozone layer depletion and climate change and calls on actions from the public to help protect our ozone layer and climate.

Who can enter?

Any individual or group with nationality or residing in 38 Asia Pacific countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kiribati, Korea DPR, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Viet Nam).

Where can I find the contest rules, timeline, and other information?

Is there any age requirement to enter the contest ? 

Any age group can enter to the contest. If you are at the age under 15 years, you will be in category of youth. The youth when enter to contest will need to consult with teacher or parents and get the consent from teacher or parent before entering.

Which type of artwork can be submitted ?

There are 3 categories of artwork that can enter.

  1. Photography contest including original photographs taken from a camera without heavy digital manipulation (such as adding additional objects or removing any objects from original photo). Slight photo adjustments such as lighting, brightness, contrast, etc. can be used.

  2. Drawing contest including traditional hand-drawing/painting or other two-dimensional hand-made art and digital drawing

  3. Graphic design contest including computer assisted designs and graphic program/applications from computer or mobile phone applications.

Each entrant can submit more than one category and maximum of artwork per entrant.

How do I enter?

a. Apply online by click ‘apply here’ and fill in the online application form. The application will contain information of yourself, your agreement of terms and conditions of the contest.

b. Create artwork according to the theme / topics of the contest. Check the theme/topic and artwork requirement.

c. Submit artwork online here.

Do I need to mail the original artwork to you?

No need. Only online submission is required.

How many pieces of arts can I submit ?

Maximum 6 pieces per entrant.

What topics or theme that I should create the arts ?

1. Achievements, actions, benefits to ozone layer protection and climate change attributed to the Vienna Convention, the Montreal Protocol including the Kigali Amendment

2. Theme of World Ozone Day 2021 - Montreal Protocol - Keeping us, our food and vaccines cool.

What file size and file type requirements ?

The artwork must be submitted as digital image files in JPEG/GIF/PNG, with at least 2,000 pixels in dimension and no more than 1 megabyte (MB). Each artwork must be submitted with the following information: Title, date created, caption explaining the artwork

(Maximum 100 words in English or in national language).

Can I submit an artwork that entered in the other contest before ? And can I submit my art to the other contest at the same time ?

Yes, it is allowed.

Does my entry have to be my original work ?

Yes, the artwork that you submit must be your own original work, created solely by you or your team. It cannot be a copy of someone else’s work, include material that is copyrightable by anyone else. You are solely responsible for any copyright infringement. We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is your original artwork created solely by you. If you use elements that are not your original work, you must have written permission from the copyright holder to use them for this purpose, and you must include that permission when you submit your artwork.

What are the awards and any other benefits ?

UNEP and organizing partner will provide all participants a participation certificate. The winner at the national level will receive the prize as announced by the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of each country. The  winners of the regional level contest will receive a UNEP trophy/plaque.

Additional benefits are : this contest is good opportunity to showcase your artwork to a wider audience and gain recognition of your artistic skills and/or professional artistic journey. If you are the winner, your artwork with your name will be published in United Nations Environment Program publication(s) and social media portal(s) e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. The visibility of your artwork and yourself will be enlarged into global scale. It can be a great way to evolve as an artist who uses your creativity to inspire people to take action on environmental issues.

How can I receive the awards?

The trophy / plaque will be mailed to you on the address that you provide.

What is the selection criteria to win ? 

The criteria are

a. Relevance to the theme/topic;

b. Creative, innovative and inspiring

c. Quality of the art

d. Overall impression

What is the judging process ?

There will be an initial screening by staff who will identify artworks that satisfy the entry requirements of the contest (file type, file size, relevant topic/theme, not containing third-party advertising, slogan, logo, trademark, images of commercial trademarks, company names etc.)

If you pass the initial screening, your artwork will be at the national level where they will select a winner for each category of art.

Winners at the National level from each country in Asia-Pacific will enter into the Regional level contest where the final regional winners will be selected by UNEP and organizing partners, expert, and public voting. The final winner, 5 runners-up, and honorable mention awards will be selected and announced on the webpage of contest.

What is the deadline of application and submission of arts ?

Who will evaluate my artwork ?

  • At the initial screening, the artwork will be screened based on contest rules by the supporting partner (Mahidol University). 

 

  • At the national level, the National Ozone Unit in each country will decide and form the judging committee to make the award-winning selection.

  • At the regional level, there will be 3 panels of judges: UNEP and organizing partners including UNESCO and experts; NOU; and public who cast the vote on your artwork.

How many winners are considered in this contest ?

At the National level, the National Ozone Unit in each country will decide how many winners in each category. Only the first rank winner of each category from national level will enter to the regional level contest. At the regional level, there are 6 winners for each category: first rank regional winner and 5 runners-up. Additional honorable mention award will also be selected for the artwork that best-represent the theme of the contest.

When and where are the winners announced and will the winners be contacted ?

The national winners will be announced by National Ozone Unit (NOU) of each country and on NOU ’s website or social media platform as well as this website by the date specified by NOU but no later than 1 June 2022.  The national winners will be contacted by NOU via the email address provided when applying the contest.

 

The regional winners will be announced on World Ozone Day Celebration, 16 September 2022 on this website and social media of UNEP and organizing partners including UNESCO and NOU of countries.

The regional winners will be contacted through the email address  provided when applying to the contest. The regional winners may also be contacted for an interview to create promotional videos for UNEP and organizing partners’ public awareness programs.

Do I need to pay a fee to enter the contest ?

No fee to enter this contest.

Where will my submitted artwork be used for ?

Your submitted artwork will be used for public awareness raising program of UNEP and organizing partners.
